Municipalities rebelling against Canada Post’s proposed cancellation of home delivery

The mobilization against Canada Post’s proposed cancellation of home delivery is gathering steam among Canada’s municipalities, with Vancouver, Saanich and Victoria joining Montreal in challenging the move.

Soon after Vancouver called for the program to be suspended yesterday, a Surrey community forum made the same call.

Yesterday’s unanimous vote by Vancouver council directed city staff to analyze the impact of the proposal, meaning a further discussion will occur based on their report.

Meanwhile, Vancouver called on Canada Post “through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, to suspend the cancellation of home delivery pending a full consultation with affected communities and other stakeholders.”

The issue will be debated at the upcoming FCM convention in June.
